RF Safety and Compliance Services

SWI RFE/EME Compliance

The FCC has set limits on human exposure to RF energy and has mandated that every time the RF environment at a wireless site is modified, a compliance study must be run to verify that the site is still within compliance to the FCC’s limits.

SWI has certified thousands of rooftops and towers for RF compliance and been involved in RF exposure (RFE) and compliance engineering since 2004. Our experience with FCC regulations for human exposure and RF safety allows us to evaluate the RF environment due to transmitting antennas mounted on rooftops, towers, water tanks and other structures and determine if the composite RF emissions/fields/radiation at a site meet or exceed the FCC Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) limits. These studies can be performed on any type of wireless facility whether tower, rooftop, water tower, municipal/utility asset, and/or DAS.

SWI’s RF exposure and compliance services align with guidelines and requirements published in the FCC Office of Engineering & Technology (OET) Bulletin 65 – “Evaluating Compliance with FCC Guidelines for Human Exposure to Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields”.

SWI offers an array of innovative and cost-effective services to ease the burden of RF compliance for our clients whether site-by-site or nationwide that includes commercial wireless service providers, building owners, tower owners, communication site management companies, government entities, and many others from various business sectors. The RF exposure and compliance services provided by SWI include:

  • RFE Studies utilizing field measurements were necessary
  • RFE Studies utilizing computer-aided prediction mapping/modeling
  • RFE Studies combining field measurement and computer-aided prediction mapping/modeling
  • RF Site Safety Plans and Remediation Options
  • RF Health and Safety Plans
  • RF Awareness and Safety Training
  • Annual/periodic site audits/surveys for compliance and verification
  • Expert witness reports & testimony for zoning/permitting hearings

The RFE Study Reports developed and issued by SWI include, if necessary, RF compliance and mitigation options and are reviewed by an on-staff Professional Engineer. RFE Studies may also be referred to as MPE Studies, NIR (Non-Ionizing Radiation) Studies or EME (Electromagnetic Emissions) Studies. The RF safety, exposure and compliance services provided by SWI can be custom-tailored to meet the specific needs of our clients and their regulatory departments. No matter which of our RF safety, exposure and compliance services you choose, SWI offers the expertise to limit your exposure.
